Are You on Guard about your Beliefs?

Hello there! It's been awhile since I had my last post here. I've been very busy with so much. I'm glad that I have found time to post something here at my blog.

Anyway, I would just like to share some of the videos that have been posted on my Facebook news feed related to our spiritual battles against the evil one. A lot of us are still unaware of the way to be saved and of what the TRUTH really is. Sometimes, we thought we know what the truth is, then we find ourselves heading towards misinterpretation.

It is really wise for us Christians to be adept with the Word of God by consistently meditating on it. We must ask inspiration from the Holy Spirit to give us that wisdom unto what God wants us to do and to be. One of the truths that we must be aware of is: Jesus is the Only way to salvation. We are not saved by our acts. We are saved by grace. Only when we accept Jesus as our savior is the way to it. After that, a relationship with Him should be well established to have our hearts be changed for His glory.

Living the Faith

...."Through You, blind eyes are opened.
Strongholds are broken.
I am living the faith,
Nothing is impossible!"

These are the words from Planetshakers' Nothing is Impossible, a song that was sung by the praise and worship team from Every Nation's worldwide conference last July 23, 2010 at the SMX Convention Center in Manila. This conference was attended by 18,000 delegates across the globe with only one aim---- to worship Lord God Almighty!

Living the Christian Faith is not easy. Growing in this faith entails endurance. And it can't be possible by our own might and power but in Christ alone.

Surrendering one's life to Jesus involves surrendering the entire lifestyle--- your own beliefs, your problems, your comfort, fame, finances----as in all of it. And making Jesus your only reason of doing things. To give glory to Him as He directs your life and putting your complete trust to Him and His wisdom.

As our sinful nature would get in the way of living this way, Jesus remains faithful and if you ask and seek for Him and His kingdom, He will direct your ways and He will really shape you up for His plan. When we become lost and deceived, as we ask for forgiveness and sincerely be faithful to Him, He washes our hearts with His Holy blood to renew us and we get back on track as we continue to fulfill His purpose through us. As Christians, we must live the faith by fixing our eyes on Him and always ask ourselves if the act or decision that we are about to do will glorify Him or not. Listen to Your conscience. It is the Holy Spirit that speaks to you when you are in doubt. :)

Thank You Lord, for your forgiving heart. For your faithfulness. You never left me. And you have revealed your power once again as you help me overcome a sinful nature of mine. You are my shepherd. You have protected me and rebuke the enemy that wants to deceive me. Thank you and I love you so much. In Jesus name, amen.

Teachers are our Kids' Second Parents

Like us, they also try their very best to bring out the best in our kids, thus forming them to fine citizens of the country of the future.

Wow! Caramoan!

Nature itself is a work of art. That is why when one is given an opportunity to travel, one must seize it!

I just came home from a trip to one of the best tourist spots in the Philippines--- Caramoan Islands in Camarines Sur. It took us like 15 hours to get there. A bus trip, then a van to the port, then a boat ride, then jeepney, then finally to our hotel. Though patience was tested during the trip, I've realized--- it was really worth the wait!

By the way, this is where Survivor France: Caramoan was shot last year. This is the picture of the equipment they used for one of their challenges. The natives showed us the cave where they hold their tribal council. But we were not allowed to take pictures of it. :) I've heard that there will be more Survivor editions that will be taking place there in Caramoan, plus some Hollywood movies as well. Wow, huh?

Island hopping was one of the wow highlights of the trip. While waiting for the boat to get to each island, can't help but be mesmerized by the view--- rocks, mountains, waters, and the sunset. --- WOW!

Also, the people of Caramoan, they are really simple and kind-hearted. Indeed it was hospitality at its finest. Very Filipino!

There were many times during my four-day stay there in Caramoan that I took time and watch the view, and I am very amazed and have wondered how God figured all these things out, how creative He really is, and how marvelous His works are. It's not just a Wow thing. It's something that left me in awe!

So much for words--- for words are not even enough to describe His Works. So here are some actual shots taken by my friends and colleagues who were with me during the trip. Enjoy and I hope you guys come and visit us in the Philippines soon!

Jesus' Sacrifice- A Wow Gift of God for Mankind

Though the celebration of Holy Week has been in the Filipino traditions since time in memorial, it is only now that I have come to see it in a much deeper perspective... this time with the Holy Spirit as manifested in our church's Seven Last Words session yesterday. I have realized how great His sacrifice is, and how good is heart is to His people. Despite the pain, hurt, ridicule, humiliation, and torture that He received from those who crucified Him, He remained compassionate to them for He still knew what He had to do, what He came here for.

As all have fallen short to His glory, God has given the Lamb to redeem us back to God. Through the Blood of Jesus, we'll be saved. By His grace we are freed from the bounds of religion, sin, and death. The enemy has been vanquished because of Jesus' resurrection. Halleluiah! Glory to the Lamb!!!!

The Issue of Retention

It saddens me so much to handle this case of retaining two of my students in the level that I am teaching. After the interventions provided to them to help them cope with school work, it pains me to actually be the bearer of the sad news to the parents. Being the second parent to these kids, plus the fact that I am their teacher, I feel so responsible that I have begun to question my competence as a teacher.

The decision of retaining them came from me. As their teacher, I am after the welfare of my kids that I would not like to make them suffer academically in the long run if I just promote them because of circumstances such as the parents' possible reaction, or the fact that they have invested much money for the education of their children. The retention will make way for these kids to relearn the basic skills before embarking unto the elementary level. This alone is my main objective.

However, this conviction of mine is being put into the test.

Should I spare myself from the confrontation that might lead to more complicated situations involving more parties including the school itself?

The thing about my situation is that the people you expect to enlightened these parents are the ones who would question a lot of things about what I did as a teacher. This is very natural, I know, but it seems that I can't help but be emotional about it. Hence, I ended up considering my decision.

I know that the right thing to do is to stand by my decision, however, this is very agonizing.

Talking About Insects

For my final teaching demonstration for this school year (which was graded by the way :) ), I chose Introduction to Insects as my topic because this will definitely stir the kids' curiosity and will definitely arouse their interest, especially if you get to bring real bugs in class. So here's the lesson plan that will show you how you can make it more interesting and meaningful for the students:

Lesson: Insects and their Characteristics

Objectives:
The students are expected to:
-enumerate parts of the insect based on observation
-state the function of the basic parts of the insect
-tell the characteristics of insects based on the given facts about some insects
-compare insects with other animals
-give own examples

Motivation:
The students will be asked to observe an army ant and list down all the parts that they will see in the specimen. They are not expected to use the correct terms but they can draw the part in case they cannot identify them. They are to write down the parts on a card provided by the teacher.

The card should have the following information:

Name of the animal:

It has:

Then post the cards on the board and get their common answers. Then show a picture of an ant and point to them the parts they have discovered during the previous activity. From there, introduce the parts of the ant. What I did here was this: "You said you've found two long hairs on the ant. Actually, we call that the antennae. Can everybody say that word again?" Then put on the label to illustrate the antennae, and so on, until you get to fill out all of the parts.

After that, you may ask the children how important they think each part is for the ant. You may give them clues to figure out the function of the parts.

Then show a picture of a bird. Ask the children, "do you think my friend Mr. Pelican (for example) here is this ant's mother? Why or why not?" Then you'll get to elicit responses that describe basic characteristics of a bird. You may do the same thing with the other groups of animals like mammals, reptiles, and fishes in order for the students to compare and contrast the ant with the other animals.

Then ask them, "if the ant is not a mammal, nor fish, nor, reptile, not even a bird, then what is it?" Then elicit, insect as a response.

Ask the children on how they will be able to distinguish an insect from other animals. Then review the parts again. Let them give examples of insects that they know. You may also want to present flashcards of insects and have them read them altogether. Afterwards, let them match the names of insects with their pictures.

Ask them where insects come from. Let them figure out where can they possibly lay eggs and how different are their eggs with that of chickens. You'll be thrilled with the way they answer. :)

Have them squish the ant. Ask them what they have noticed. This will allow you to explain a bit about insects being invertebrates and how weak their body coverings are. You may also want to have them recall the way they eat fish and ask them what they don't eat from them so you may explain very well what having a backbone means.

After this, you may want to have them defend if the spider is indeed an insect or not based on the characteristics you have discussed to evaluate if they can now distinguish an insect from other animals.

This lesson plan actually allows kids to explore and act like scientists. They can get to discover for themselves the characteristics of insects through this hands-on activity.

Hope this works! When I did the demo, it was fun and the kids really enjoyed it. Now go and WOW the students with bugs!!! :D

Having a Wow Storytelling Experience with your Kids

Storytelling is one of the most well-loved moments in the classroom. If you want your kids to settle down, storytelling is a way to go. This also attract the students to read and love books because the teacher promotes it. Storytelling has been proven to be one of the recommended motivators for any given lesson a teacher wants to conduct in a class, and it serves as a bonding moment for parents and their kids as well.

But storytelling is not confined with telling the story details or reading the story to listeners alone. This activity is rich itself, and teachers and parents should maximize this and make it a teaching moment for the kids to STOP AND THINK.

That's right. Storytelling stimulates thinking. This is by making the kids look at the picture and the title, and asking them what it's going to be about, and make connections with the pictures and with their experiences. As you unfold each page to them, do not fail to ask them questions related to the story, and ask what they think about it, and make them empathize with the characters and the given situations. If you get your children to involve actively in storytelling, then you can be assured of a very enriching and meaningful discussion, thus encouraging children to love books.

So again, STOP AND THINK... What do you think about this? How did it happen? What if you were in that position, what could you have done? These and other questions will definitely engage your kids to a fine quest for adventure in books. Furthermore, it increases their mental activity, and at the same time, entertaining them with the mysteries unraveled only by the pages of the book.

Another nice activity is to engage them with what they call, "A Walk in the Book Park" where you can make a path of storybooks that you have read for the week on the floor in the classroom or at home, then ask the children to have a walk with you. As you pass on to each book, you can ask them to find the book about the topic that you have read to them, to see how well they can remember the stories you have told to them. Or ask them to "go" to what book does a character live.

Have fun storytelling! and let the child's imagination work wonders in them!Make them go WOW as you read to them, and be WOWed by their responses to your thought-provoking questions. Go Wow!

1st Philippine Summit on Early Childhood Education

It was indeed a privilege for me to be a part of the first philippine summit on early childhood education which was held at fort bonifacio in taguig last november 5 and 6, 2009. There were many insights and realizations presented in the series of lectures that we had, and I must say, this summit is like taking up the entire course of ECE in one sitting!

With one of the distinguished speakers, Dr. George Morrison. Among his lectures include, The New Kindergarten Teacher, Trends in Early Childhood Education, Best Practices in Early Childhood Education, and Political and Social Contexts for Best Practices and Trends

With Dr. Laura Benson. Her topics include What Growing Readers need to Learn, Best Practice Instruction, Assessment of Reading and Growth, and Launching Readers

Some of the instructional materials and activites suggested that will make reading fun and challenging to the readers. Altogether, they make kids understand and think about what they read to make connections to their everyday life.

On the next series of entries that I will posting on this blog will be rich with information and details about the topics that we have taken up in the summit, that will surely be helpful for those teachers who are into the field of ECE. So, you can watch out for that. :D

Hehe! Im now writing a post here in my new sony ericson G900 mobile phone. I am quite enjoying this good find because for me, everything that a mobile phone must have are all here. It's touch-screen with wi-fi capability, plus a 5 megapixel cam perfect for capturing moments. It also has mp3 player, and a lot more. All are found in its compact size... It's really nice. It is expandable up to 8GB by the way. Anyway, for me, this is definitely a WOW phone!

HAPPY WORLD TEACHERS' DAY!!!!

To my fellow teachers, may this day be a reminder for us that we have answered to the calling that God has given to us to fulfill. To touch children's lives is to touch their future. We are called to this noble profession to make the future leaders of tomorrow.

We have been given this task to mold the children to be in the image and likeness of God. And so we have to do our best to make sure that we guide them to the path, the way that was given to them by God.

It is not easy to be a teacher. It entails patience, courage, wisdom, and strength. Also, knowledge, talent, and skill. To complete the package.... passion. Passion to grow, persevere, to teach, and to learn more.

Teachers are the epitome of everything a person should be. That is why, we need to be like the greatest teacher of all, who has defined the meaning of teaching, and has lived it... Jesus Christ.

And so let us always draw inspiration from Him.... then be inspired and learn from others whom He have chosen as well.

So here's to the noble teachers around the world!

The Wrath of Ondoy

Perhaps you have heard of the typhoon Ondoy that hit the Philippines last week, September 26, 2009. This has caused a major dagger to many Filipinos residing along the Marikina, Muntinlupa, Rizal, Cainta, and other parts of Luzon. Floods have caused so much lives and many lost their homes. It was truly a sad and a tragedy that made families mourn in grief and less hopeful.

The WOW about it is that after the day of the tragedy, after the rescuing and evacuation, many of the Filipinos have extended much of themselves to help these unfortunate people. Relief was given immediately and more and more have been inspired to how the Filipinos relive the spirit of giving.

The WOWEST of all is that, God, amidst all these, has been faithful to us, and has protected us. His power is truly the most powerful and the most superior of all, and let us be still and know His authority among all things. Yet, this should also be a wake up call to fall down to our knees, pray and realize that Jesus is the only way to salvation.

All of these have been happening, and indeed we can coin it to what we call, a catasthrophe. We need to realize that the Lord is near... He is coming, and we need to be on our toes to spread this Good News that Jesus is our hope and salvation, and accepting Him to be our sole savior and Lord is the key to eternal life with the Father in heaven.

Lesson Plan: Ordinal Numbers

Wow.... I had my first evaluation in teaching yesterday. I had a teaching demo on Ordinal Numbers to my Prep class and I want to share it with teachers out there.

Lesson: Introduction to Ordinal Numbers
Level: Preparatory

At the end of a forty-minute lesson, the students are expected to:
· utilize ordinal numbers in sequencing events and objects based on the story
· identify and recognize sequence of ordinal numbers and their equivalent numerals
· explain how the students were listed using ordinal numbers based on stacking game
· tell the use of ordinal numbers in arranging objects

a. Motivation

The students will be presented with flashcards of their names and together they will read them aloud. Then they will be asked to stack up ten blocks as fast as they can and will raise their hands once done. Each student’s name will be listed on the board as soon as they have finished the task. After the activity, the students will be explain and figure out how their names are arranged, thus the concept of the lesson will be introduced.

b. Presentation

· As the students answer the questions posed by the teacher, the terms “first, second, third, etc.” will be elicited. They will be asked to arrange the name cards from first to tenth. · They will also tell the use of these terms. · They will be shown another way to write ordinal numbers: 1st to 10th · A story of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” will be read to the class. There will be pictures that will be placed on the board as the story is being read to them. · The students will answer questions based from the story. · The students will engage in a group activity. The students will be divided into two groups and each group will be given charts. Based from the story, Group 1 will arrange in columns the days of the week. Group 2 will arrange pictures of food eaten by the caterpillar in the story. The arrangements will be done according to the correct sequence in the story. · From the charts given, the students will be asked to identify the position of days of the week and the food eaten by the caterpillar in random.

c. Generalization ·

The students will read the set of ordinal numbers in words and will tell when are ordinal numbers are used. · Lesson is concluded.

d. Evaluation · The students will be asked to arrange themselves in lines. Group 1 will be asked to arrange themselves from shortest to tallest, as Group 2 will be from tallest to shortest. · The teacher will pick an ordinal number from a container. The students should shake their hips as
their positions are called.

Although the activities seem to be effective to stimulate learners, just be ready if ever they get excited that you might not be able to gain their attention to think and process what they have learned. I hope this helps. Have fun!

To Wow Others with our Christian Faith

To be a born-again Christian is not an easy role to be in. It is not enough for us to just say yes to the Lord and that's it. It never stops there. It is true that one has to spread the news of such reborn and resurrection, and convince others to accept Jesus as their savior and for them to see in us how Jesus has truly changed us.

We cannot debate or argue about the kind of faith that others have, and we cannot be drastic about this to them. However, there is a better way by which we can "wow" them about God's miracle in us.

One is through compassion. How can you win a soul if you don't show compassion and a helping hand to them? When we care for others, then we are already making them feel how much God loves them and how we are being used to bring them to Him.

A Japanese woman during the WWII came to America with no job, money, and shelter to run to. An unfortunate circumstance then has even worsen the scenario-- she got sick and needed to be hospitalized. With a sudden twist of faith, a group of youth working in a Christian church came to see her and extended help, and with that, she was taken cared of and soon, she was healed with her illness. As compassion saved her life, she told this group of youth, "I would like to be like you, guys. I want to join your church."

With that anecdote, we can say that God speaks to others through our actions. If people see how God works in our lives, they will be convinced to seek Him as well. Again, debating against other faith and religion is not the key to win souls, rather, Christians should reflect the Wow Christians to others.

To wow others of Christian, we need to make them see how God direct us to do things and the joy we have because we have Him.

A WOW Day!

Was there a time in your life that you felt like giving up? Or times when you felt tired doing things? Or like you felt like, you have everything on your shoulders and you have no choice but to carry the burden?

Yes, a lot would tell us not to get discouraged and all those cliche' about life. I'm not saying that we should not believe them but sometimes, these usual encouragement seems not to get into you... or it doesn't seem to sink in no matter what you do.

Well, I'm in that verge last week.

Last week was like I was just imagining myself being encouraged with unfavorable circumstances that are happening in my life. It came to a point that I said to myself, "Hey, who am I kidding?"

But yesterday, during the Sunday service at the church where my family attend to, I had an awakening again. Walking with the Lord would sometimes be the harder path, and the one less taken. Then as I followed our pastor to the verses of the Bible set for that day, I prayed to Him and told Him, "I don't want You to be just a figment of my imagination. Let me experience You once again..."

Then, this morning, before I went to school to teach, I found my Bible in my bag. I usually leave it home because it was no use for me during weekdays for work, but I suddenly realize, maybe I should really make time for it. Well, I didn't read it today, but knowing that I was bringing it, I felt really better knowing that I carry the Word.... literally. :D

Before I went to work, I prayed for God to give me patience and temperance to handle my anger and frustrations well. It worked. This day, was truly a WOW for me. I was able to hold my temper, and I was very patient and appreciative of them. When I came home, I was happy with my family, and my kids, though they were really rowdy and wild as they turned the house upside down, I haven't raised my voice at them. Truly patience is not my capability.... It is indeed a gift by the Holy Spirit granted to those who dearly prayed for it.

A Wow Prayer for our Marriages

The wow thing about it is that probably God wants me to hold on and be strong for the man I love...

The Little Rewards

I am married with two kids. I can say that I am really proud that I have such vibrant kids... full of wonders in bundles. They are 5 and 6 years old, both are good readers and performers in school. Modesty aside, my children give me much pride and honor to be their mother, although at times, I feel that I still need to give them more, that they deserve more of what I am currently giving them.

My two kids are my source of strength and inspiration. They are God's gifts to me. And I promised Him that I will raise them up to be what He wants them to be. And so no matter how hard it would be to make them live like good Christians and live a Christian life, I will do my best.

Yet at times, I feel so alone with this vision and I would like to think that I have somebody to help me with this rewarding task. The person that I am counting on to be with me on this, is the person who would let you down, and this person will never realize how important it is for me to see my kids be at their best. So sad that the little rewards that I long to see as another inspiration for me to carry the burden of survival despite of this person's inadequacies in the end, would find the guts to tell me, "did you ever say sorry when you disappoint me at times?"

But the wow of this situation is this...

First, I am seeing myself as someone who can stand up on my own, and might make it without this person.

Second, if I do find the courage to leave this person, I might give what is ample to my kids.

Third, I have my family to support me no matter what.

But then, it is never a wow to be in a broken family, in a broken marriage. It never is. I am an advocate of strong families, for this is what the Lord want us to build. I strongly believe that my family is a Christian family, founded by God. I just hope and pray that these thoughts of mine will not push through... while I can still hold on to what we have promised to each other.

That is the wow of it. Keeping the faith alive even in impossibilities.

The little rewards that I have is that God helps me to raise my kids to be their best, and everyday I realize how miraculous it is to have such wonderful bundles. I am praying that my decisions will not ruin my little miracles' life.

World of Words

Are you in search of nice tv show for your toddlers and preschoolers?

Well, check this one out!

Word World is an educational show for children to stimulate them to read words that form the object that they are illustrating. Words indeed come alive as the characters in this show make use of letters to create the objects they need. Like Pig, the chef, cooks food by putting together the letters to make the food he wishes to create. The setting also made of words, like the LOG where FROG lives, BARN where PIG lives, HAY where SHEEP lives, and a lot more.

Word World also teaches kids how to read and sound letters--- essential to help them become successful readers and each episode teach them good values.

So parents and teachers like me, I'm pretty sure you will be amused by this show... It is truly a WOW show!

Free Preschool for the Masses

One of the subjects that I took up for my graduate studies in De La Salle University was Principles of Teaching. I have learned so much from that subjects, and I have enjoyed most of my time there. This class was handled by Dr. Eric Olivarez, who is also the owner and administrator of Olivarez College in Paranaque.

As a part of our course requirement, we were asked to visit Olivarez College and come up with an extensive evaluation of the school, including the curriculum, instruction, and its facilities. It is a big school and its facilities are very impressive and worth emulating.

But here is the WOW part...

Olivarez College actually has an outreach preschool, setup for those families who cannot afford to send their young toddlers to school. This is actually for free! Yup, quality education for free! This project by Dr. Olivarez has been for many years already, and has given more children hope and inspiration to pursue education for their dreams.
Now when I first saw this, I was completely awed by it, and I can't stop sharing this with my co-teachers and friends about it. This is because, the room was nicely done and is equipped with materials needed for the students to use, and the teachers are very dedicated to this project. Inspiring, isn't it?

Dr. Olivarez is a public servant and an advocate of education for all, and so he came up with this idea. With this, he has gained the admiration of many, especially in the city of Paranaque, and mine as well. This is definitely a WOW!!!

Have you ever encountered situations that made a WOW factor in your life?

Well, I have... and everyday is a WOW thing for me.

To attract positive things to happen in our life, we need to dwell on positive things to make optimism shape up our lives. Let us not drag ourselves in doing things that we feel we are just obliged to. The secret to life is to find joy in everything we do.
